Boarding your pet at Common Scents

Kennel Facility

Our kenneling facilities for dogs include individual indoor/outdoor runs with heated floors in cold weather and air conditioning in warmer months. All outdoor runs are 16 feet long, double-row security fenced, and screened for your dog’s safety and comfort. We do not  practice "group boarding" or group playtime. Each pet has their own private, individual kennel, and playtime is conducted one on one with a staff member in one of our spacious, fenced outdoor yards. Pets from the same household may be boarded and/or have playtime together with owner permission. All pets have drinking water available at all times.

All of our dog runs (both indoor and out) and cat enclosures are cleaned and disinfected daily. Our boarding facility for cats is located in the main building, separate from the primary dog area. This entire area is heated, air conditioned, and brightly decorated with large windows and a skylight. Each cat has an individual enclosure with bed, scratching post, and a litterbox that is changed daily.

Our entire kennel complex is protected with a state of the art Life Safety smoke and fire protection system provided by Guardian Alarm. There is 24-hour supervision, with the owners living on the premises. One of the owners is a licensed veterinary technician.

Kennel Operations

Our kennel staff consists of a Kennel Manager, several Animal Care Attendants, and an Office Manager. Our Kennel Manager has over 25 years of experience in pet care. All members of our staff are ABKA certified and are skilled in providing proper care to your pet, including administering medications and providing minor medical care when needed.
Kennel operations are supervised by one of our co-owners, who lives on the premises and is a Licensed Veterinary Technician.

Kennel Services

All dogs are given access to their outside runs several times per day, and a biscuit is given at midday and bedtime. An Exit Bath is offered at a nominal fee of $10.00 for dogs visiting with us for seven or more days. This is not a complete grooming, but rather a bath and dry. Complete grooming is available. Some dogs will not be eligible for the "boarder bath" due to their coat type, we can discuss this with you on an individual basis.

Owner supplied food is recommended to avoid the potential stress that a change of foods may cause. The kennel does stock Iams diets if you choose not to bring your pet’s regular food. Dogs may be fed once, twice or even three times per day at your request. Cats are fed free choice or at regular intervals, also at your request. Please inform the kennel staff the amount, in standard measuring cups of food, that your pet is fed.

Owner supplied medications are administered per your instructions for no charge. Please bring specifically labeled medication in the original container or prescription bottle. We are not able to board diabetic pets or pets on medication for heart conditions, and we advise that such pets be boarded at a veterinary facility for close medical monitoring.

Daily Playtime can be provided for your dog at a nominal charge. Our staff members enjoy interacting with your pets and can take them for a leash walk around the property or engage them in a game of fetch in one of our secure play areas. We highly recommend playtime for all boarders.

Our Training Center may be able to provide “brush-up” training for pets who have been through one of our programs. We also offer “interactive playtime” for dogs with special needs. Complete In-Kennel training programs are also available. These services must be arranged through our Training Center.

Common Scents rewards our regular clients with a “Frequent Boarder” program. Your pet will automatically receive a point for every day they stay with us. When their points total 20, you will receive one day of boarding at no charge on your pet’s next visit.

We prefer you do not bring bedding from home, but will be happy to provide a blanket to your pet during their stay. You may bring a few toys and chewies or a rawhide for your pet's kennel. We ask that you do not bring anything irreplaceable, as  items do get shifted during cleaning.

Owner supplied medications are administered per owner’s instructions for no additional charge. We are not able to board diabetic pets or pets on medications for heart conditions. We are not able to board pets new to us that are age 11 or older due to possible health risks from exposure to a new environment - feel free to call us if you have further questions regarding boarding of a geriatric pet.

Day Camp
Dogs staying with us for Day Camp are housed in indoor/outdoor runs, not crates. They recieve an individual playtime session and a nature walk with a staff member while they are here during the day. Meals can be fed upon owner request.

Day Camp dogs must be dropped off at 7:30 am or between 8:30-11:00am.  They must be picked up between  4:00-7:00pm Monday through Friday and at 5:00 pm on Saturdays. We do not offer Day Camp on Sundays.
Day Camp may not be available during peak Holiday periods, please inquire as to availability during these times.
