Agility

Agility is a sport in which dog and handler, as a team, work their way through a series of obstacles including jumps, tunnels and weave poles. The main reason for doing agility is that it's FUN!, but it also gives you an opportunity to interact in a constructive way with your dog, providing challenge, exercise (for both of you!), and social interaction (again, for both of you!).

Our program introduces your dog to the various obstacles in the most pleasant and safe way possible. At Common Scents, we have fun without all of the rules of competitive agility to provide a program that is enjoyable, yet relaxed, for both you and your dog. Our equipment is professional quality and therefore very stable and safe.

Our agility instructor is Michelle O'Neill. Michelle is experienced at teaching both agility and obedience, and is involved with her own dog in numerous dog sport activities. Michelle is a very upbeat person who thoroughly enjoys teaching and is committed to the principles of positive reinforcement for both dogs and owners!

We do require that you complete a basic obedience course or otherwise demonstrate reasonable control over your dog prior to enrollment. It is necessary that the owners have control over their dogs to avoid injury and also to allow the class to run smoothly. If you have already been through class at Common Scents, you're all set! If you've been through some other program, or have done your own training, you can still enroll in agility, but one of our instructors will need to meet with you briefly to see that you have control over your dog and that the dog is physically able to handle the course. If you have not taken your dog through an obedience class yet, we offer an exceptional beginner obedience class for dogs age 12 weeks and older, as well as intermediate and advanced level classes.

Enrollment

Pre-enrollment is required. Because of the athletic requirements of the sport, you must be certain your dog is in good health before enrolling in an agility program. If age, weight, or any other physical condition is in question, please talk to your vet to avoid putting your dog at unnecessary risk. Also, puppies over 6 months old may enroll, but may not be allowed on some obstacles due to their developing structure.

Fees

The six week Agility class session is $100, $85 for repeat Agility enrollees. Fee is due with enrollment sign up.

Health Requirements
