Group Obedience Classes – Advanced/Competition

As with all programs at Common Scents, the purpose of the eight week Advanced Class is to improve both your and your dog's skills toward achieving a more rewarding pet-owner relationship. Emphasis is placed on dealing with increased levels of distraction as well as novel objects and situations. We will also work toward off leash work. Implementation of random reward schedules for food training and use of alternative forms of motivation will be covered, as well as create problem solving. For those interested in competition, we will be including work on AKC Rally and obedience exercises.

As a challenge to both dog and owner, much of the work of the Advanced Class will be conducted outdoors, weather permitting. Enrollees in the Advanced Class are expected to have good control of their dogs in the presence of other dogs and people, with a reasonable mastery of the basic obedience exercises, plus some formal heeling. Sessions will be fast paced and intensive, but always fun for everyone.

The fee for Advanced class is $150. Health requirements are the same as for Intermediate class.

New! Competition Class

For the serious trainer, Common Scents is adding a competition class. Focus will be on AKC Rally and Obedience. The classes will run in 8 week sessions, with a maximum of eight students. There will be two instructors present to ensure lots of individual help.
