Group Obedience Classes Puppy Training/Beginner

Welcome to your dog's first - and possible only – training class. Make sure it's the right one! Your dog's education is too important to be relegated to a pet store, community, or school auxiliary program. Most dog owners will only give their pets one opportunity to learn manners, obedience and social skills. Invest in your dog's lifelong relationship with you. Common Scents offers a program that is professionally designed by a certified animal behaviorist. "Behavior" as we define it, has several components: basic manners, response to authority, an understanding of basic obedience commands, and social skills with both people and other dogs. At Common Scents, we offer you an intensive, eight week program that focuses on all of these issues, along with numerous supportive handouts. You won't get this from a pre-packaged program. You will get it from us.

Beginner Level Group Classes at Common Scents give your dog or puppy the opportunity to learn basic obedience, house manners, social skills, and much more. Through use of positive reinforcement (a combination of food and praise), we teach dogs to respect authority, develop a positive attitude toward obedience, and become more accepting of people, places, objects, and other dogs. We also advise on how to handle the most common issues involved with puppy raising such as jumping, nipping, housebreaking, and counter surfing.

All Beginner classes at Common Scents have multiple instructors with a student-teacher ratio of approximately 4:1. This ensures that each student receives some personal help when needed.

We also have extensive written handouts covering both lectures on dog behavior as well as a detailed description of each exercise taught in class. All of our instructors are also available during the week by phone.

Common Scents group classes run in 8 -week sessions, one class per week, for 8 consecutive weeks. We offer evening classes throughout the year. In addition to our basic program, we also offer intermediate (link) and advanced (link) courses. Again, the focus of these programs is a more obedient pet with an end objective of off leash control, and, for those who desire it, competitive obedience. As the majority of our classes do fill, it is necessary to pre-register in advance by mail.

Puppy/Beginner Class Participants

You may pre-register for puppy/beginner classes at Common Scents by:

Requesting an information packet be mailed to you, filling out the owner questionnaire form and mailing it back to us with a check or money order for the full class fee.
You may also hand deliver your owner questionnaire and class fee to the kennel office at Common Scents during kennel business hours.
For your convenience, you may also download and print the owner questionnaire, fax (248-627-5197) or mail it to us and pay using PayPal.

The owner questionnaire is password protected so that we may speak with you before pre-registering. Please call us at 248-627-5533. Please note: all pre-registration is contingent upon receipt of full class fee. You will not be considered as pre-registered until receipt of class fee. Enrollment is on a first come, first served basis.
